Lionel Coleman leads Successient’s financial operations and financial strategy, and is a member of the company's Executive Committee.  He has responsibility for the financial management of Successient and oversight of business development.


Lionel brings more than 25 years of consulting, finance, and business development experience to the Successient team.  As the Manager of Budgets and Analysis for United Airlines, he led a team of professionals overseeing $2 billion in operational expenditures.  While with Burgos & Associates, a New York based strategic planning and crisis management concern, Lionel provided advisory services on U.S. Department of Commerce contracts.  Additionally, he started his own firm providing advisory services for Chicagoland businesses.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame (BBA) and University of Michigan (MBA), Lionel’s passions are business reading, music, and grilling.

James Perkins is the head of Human Resources, and is a member of the company's Executive Committee.  He is responsible for talent acquisition, development, retention, compensation and benefits, equal opportunity, diversity, and human resource compliance.

James has almost 25 years of Human Resources experience in Fortune 500 companies, serving in various capacities as a Senior HR Leader as well as in the specialties of compensation and HR Consulting.

A graduate of the University of Southern California (BS, Public Affairs) and the University of Michigan (MBA, Concentration in OBHRM and Corporate Strategy), he has worked in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and managed care industries, financial services, and hospitality industries.  He has served on Boards in both the healthcare and hospitality industries during his career.

Landon Pate is the head of Business Operations, Information Systems, and Technology Security, and is a member of the company's Executive Committee.  He is responsible for technology and associated processes / services with our partners, as well as internally across Successient’s business.

Landon has over 25 years of information technology, technology security, and business experience.  He increased productivity, improved efficiency, and reduced costs as a process, infrastructure, application, enterprise architect / consultant in several industries.  Landon has reduced process and technological risk by designing, deploying, and leading MIS, audit, risk management, compliance, cyber security, and privacy management programs for multi-nationals including pharmaceutical and health care services companies.

Before joining Successient, Landon held increasingly responsible leadership positions across a variety of industries including consulting, financial services, high technology, petro-chemical, and telecommunications.  He most recently served as an executive of technology security for a $20 billion natural resources (mining, oil, gas) multi-national concern.

Landon holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SB) and the University of Michigan (MBA – Information Systems and Corporate Strategy).  His passions are martial arts, shooting (target and cowboy action), and roller skating.

Kurt Phillips heads Successient’s sales and marketing efforts, and is a member of the company's Executive Committee.  In this role, Kurt is responsible for all aspects of the company’s sales efforts, including sales processes and support, as well as its customer management practices across the enterprise.

Kurt has over 22 years of sales, sales training, and sales management experience including 15 years in the biopharmaceutical industry.  He has worked for companies such as Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, and Novartis where he launched blockbuster compounds such as Celebrex, Bextra, Prilosec, and the biosimilar Omnitrope.  Kurt owned and operated a home health care agency in New Jersey for 7 years.  He has extensive startup, executive management, leadership, marketing, and sales experience.

A graduate of Kent State University (BS, Physiology) and the University of Michigan (Master of Physiology and Sports Marketing), Kurt enjoys spending time with his family, reading personal development books, golfing, and working out.

Our Team

Neal Newman brings over 20 years of accounting and legal knowledge as an advisor to Successient, LLC.  Neal is a tenured professor at Texas A&M University School of Law where he teaches courses in business and securities law. Before entering academia, Neal was an associate at the venerable southeastern law firm of Alston & Bird, LLP in Atlanta, Ga., where he represented publicly held companies in mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactional matters.

Prior to entering the law profession, Neal’s first career was that of public accountant where he performed audit compliance work with  healthcare and medical related entities comprising a fair amount of his client base.

Neal earned his J.D. with honors from Howard University School of Law where he served as the Student Bar Association treasurer for two consecutive terms.  He earned his B.B.A. from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, majoring in accounting. Neal is a certified public accountant, certified in the state of Michigan, where he practiced as a public accountant prior to entering law school.  Additionally, Neal was an All-American track athlete at the University of Michigan where he held the Big-Ten Indoor record for twelve years in the 800-meter run and competed in the 1992 Olympic trials.
